The 10th Cavalry Regiment was a segregated, all-black unit nicknamed “Buffalo Soldiers” that had its regimental headquarters at Fort Concho from 1875 to 1882. While stationed there, the regiment under Colonel Benjamin Grierson built infrastructure, escorted parties, and fought in campaigns against indigenous people like the Victorio Campaign. The fort served as a key base for the regiment during this period before the headquarters was moved west to Fort Davis https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/10th_Cavalry_Regiment_(United_States)
