The 92nd Infantry Division, nicknamed the “Buffalo Soldiers” Division, was an all-Black unit formed in October 1917 at Camp Funston, Kansas, for service in World War I. The division, composed of soldiers from all over the United States, was designated the “Buffalo Soldiers” division due to its association with the historic Buffalo Soldiers regiments of the 19th century. The division saw action in France during the Meuse-Argonne Offensive before returning to the US and being deactivated in February 1919.
