The 94th Cavalry Regiment, represented in the Minnesota National Guard by the 1st Squadron, 94th Cavalry, has a history rooted in the 2nd Battalion, 136th Infantry, which served in World War II. The 2nd Battalion, 136th Infantry, was organized in 1942 and participated in campaigns in New Guinea and Luzon, earning a Philippine Presidential Unit Citation. After the war, the battalion was reorganized into the 94th Armor, then later became the 1st Squadron, 94th Cavalry. The unit deployed to Bosnia and Iraq.
