The 25th Infantry Regiment, a famous “Buffalo Soldier” unit, was an infantry regiment of the U.S. Army that operated from 1866 to 1957. The regiment served in major conflicts, from the American Indian Wars to World War II, and was known for building infrastructure, maintaining law and order on the frontier, and fighting. While it’s a common point of interest, the regiment did not have a continuous presence at Fort Sill, OK, and its history is more strongly associated with locations like the Texas frontier, where it was first organized, and posts in the Western United States.
