Unit History
Specialist E-4 (SP4) is a junior enlisted rank and the most common rank for those with technical expertise, with pay and benefits equal to a corporal (E-4). While a corporal is a junior noncommissioned officer (NCO), a specialist is a technical expert in a specific job, with duties focused on their specialty rather than leading troops. Promotion to this rank typically requires 24 months of service, though this can be waived by a commander.
