he 96th Infantry Division, known as the “Deadeyes,” was activated on 15 August 1942 during World War II at Camp Adair, Oregon. The division trained in the Hawaiian Islands from July to September 1944 before participating in combat during the Leyte Gulf assault in the Philippines on 20 October 1944. The division’s legacy is preserved through various efforts, including the 96th Infantry Division Heritage Fund, which aims to honor its history and the contributions of its soldiers
