A Cold War vet with the 172nd Infantry Brigade served during the Cold War era in a U.S. Army infantry unit that was garrisoned in places like Fort Richardson, Alaska, and later in Europe. The brigade was active during the Cold War, but was most recently inactivated on May 31, 2013, after being garrisoned at Grafenwöhr, Germany. The 172nd Infantry Brigade was a light infantry brigade that served in conflicts such as World War II and Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom.
