Kagnew Station was a U.S. Army installation located in Asmara, Eritrea, on the Horn of Africa. It began as a radio station in 1943, taking over an existing Italian facility, and later expanded to become a major communication and strategic installation. The station played a significant role in US military communication and intelligence operations in the region. It was officially established in 1953 and eventually included nine sites with various Army, Navy, and Air Force units, housing around 3,500 personnel including dependents.
