The 45th Field Artillery Brigade, part of the Oklahoma Army National Guard, carries the motto “Pride, Valor, Excellence” on its Distinctive Unit Insignia (DUI) and is known as the “Red Thunder” Nation. Its history dates back to the 158th Field Artillery Regiment, formed after World War I, with the modern brigade activated in 1968 from elements of the disbanded 45th Infantry Division, which served in World War II and Korea. The brigade’s Shoulder Sleeve Insignia (SSI) features a Thunderbird and arrowhead, reflecting its strong ties to the 45th Infantry Division.
