A “Vietnam Combat Air Assault Veteran w/ 11th Air Assault Dive SSI” refers to a service member who was a part of the 11th Air Assault Division (Test), a unit that developed air assault tactics for the Vietnam War before being re-flagged as the 1st Cavalry Division (Airmobile). The SSI (Shoulder Sleeve Insignia) is the shoulder patch for the unit, and “Dive” is likely a typo, possibly intended to be a reference to the Air Assault tab worn on the left side of the uniform, as the 11th Air Assault Division was the first and last unit to have this distinct tab approved.
