The First Airmobile Division
On 16 June 1965, the U.S. Army stood up the 1st Cavalry Division (Airmobile) — the world’s first air assault division, fielding more than four times the aircraft of a standard division. UH-1 Hueys, AH-1 Cobras, and OH-6 Loaches became the cavalry horses of a new era. The First Team deployed to Vietnam in September 1965 and never looked back.
