HISTORY

• The U.S. Army’s 88th Infantry Division, known as the “Blue Devils,” fought in both World War I and World War II, earning their nickname from German propaganda for their fierce fighting. In World War II, they were the first all-draftee division to see combat overseas, playing a crucial role in the Italian campaign by liberating Rome on June 4, 1944, and later fighting in tough mountain battles like Mount Battaglia. The division’s cloverleaf insignia represents its origin from the states of Iowa, Illinois, Minnesota, and North Dakota.
