During the Korean War, the 2nd Ranger Infantry Company was a U.S. Army special operations unit specializing in irregular warfare and reconnaissance, though there wasn’t a direct affiliation between a “1st Ranger Inf Company” and the 2nd ID in the Korean War context. This company was one of six Ranger Infantry Companies (Airborne) deployed to Korea. While the 2nd Infantry Division was a major ground unit in Korea, the Ranger Companies were small, separate light infantry units.
