The 12th Armored Division was known as the “Hellcats” during World War II and was not nicknamed the “Suicide Division”. This “Hellcat” division entered combat in France in late 1944, advanced through the Rhineland in early 1945, captured key cities in Germany, and ended the war in Austria. The nickname “Hellcats” was likely derived from their aggressive fighting style, and there is no evidence to support a “Suicide Division” moniker for the 12th Armored Division, according to the Holocaust Encyclopedia.
