The 45th Fires Brigade, a unit of the Oklahoma Army National Guard, was formed from the historic 158th Field Artillery Regiment, which traces its origins to the post-World War I era, and shares a heritage with the renowned 45th Infantry Division, known as the “Thunderbirds”. The 45th Fires Brigade is distinct from the 45th Infantry Brigade Combat Team but carries the “Thunderbird” legacy, and its history is tied to the 45th Infantry Division’s service in World War II, including combat in Italy, France, and Germany, and the liberation of Dachau.
