The 24th Infantry Regiment was one of the original “Buffalo Soldier” regiments, organized in 1869 and initially stationed at Fort McKavett, Texas. Its history is marked by service on the Western frontier, the Spanish-American War, World War I, and World War II, as well as service in the Korean War. The regiment was disbanded in 1951 after a period of integration into other Army units due to issues of racial segregation.
