Die-Cut Magnets -WAC – NDSM – COLD WAR Service Bar X 300
The 26th Infantry Division, also known as the “Yankee Division,” was a United States Army unit with a history dating back to World War I, notable for its service in World War II. The “SSI” refers to the division’s Shoulder Sleeve Insignia, a shoulder patch worn by its soldiers. This division was formed in 1917, served in France during WWI, and after being activated again for WWII, landed at Utah Beach in September 1944, fighting through France, Luxembourg, and Germany. It was known for its advance into Austria, where it helped liberate the Gusen concentration camp in May 1945.
