The 5th Armored Division, nicknamed the “Victory Division,” was a formation of the United States Army active from 1941 to 1945 and again from 1950 to 1956, serving in both World War II and the early Cold War. Known for its speed and efficiency, the division participated in major campaigns in Europe and was sometimes referred to as “Patton’s ghost troops” due to its role in spearheading armored assaults. Today, the 5th Armored Division Association maintains a website at 5ad.org to chronicle the division’s history and provide a community for its veterans.
